DRAFTING 1

Course description

 In Drafting 1 you will learn about a variety of technical drawing skills: sketching, orthographic projection, pictorials and 3d modeling. You will also learn to use a variety of tools in which to practice these skills: AutoCAD, traditional board drawing tools, and Revit.

Daily exercises…….60%

Tests………………..20%

Quarter Project….20%

 

Daily exercises

Students will work on exercises every day to strengthen the skills that are being taught in class. The exercises may be answering questions pertaining to a certain topic, creating CAD drawings, or sketching a variety of shapes and objects.

 

Tests

Tests will be multiple choice, in a similar format to the end of course state final for Drafting 1. If you make below a C on a test, you have the option to retake the test within a week of the original test date outside of the normal class time (ie. lunch/after school).

 

Quarter Project

Each quarter will culminate in a 2 week long project that will apply the skills that have been practiced through daily exercises. The 1st quarter project will be a 3D modeling assignment using Design Thinking to create a prototype. The 2nd quarter project will be a small house design using the Revit program.

 

Course Schedule (approximately)

August 26 - 30: Drafting Careers and Design Thinking

September 3 - 11: Sketching Skills (Orthographic Projection and Pictorials)

September 12 - October 11: AutoCad User Skills (2D, 3D and plotting drawings)

October 14 - 25: 1st Quarter Project

October 28 - November 8: Continue AutoCAD User Skills (dimensioning, hatching, annotating)

November 12 -15: AutoCAD certification review and preparation

November 19 & 21: AutoCAD Certification Test

November 22 - 26: Geometric Construction

December 2 - 13: Revit User Skills (walls, windows, stairs, roof, user interface)

December 16- January 10: 2nd Quarter Project

January 13: Final Exam Review Begins
